Located on the Arkansas River and the Mountain or Bent's Fort Route on the historic Santa Fe Trail, Syracuse, Kansas sits astride an ancient pathway for mountain men, traders and pioneering settlers as they moved west during the 1800s. The Bent's Fort Route was longer and more difficult than the Cimarron Route of the Trail, but it was considered a safer way to reach Santa Fe.
